The Diabetes Society conducts or co-sponsors a number of free monthly support groups. If you would like to share experiences, problems, or just talk to others who have diabetes, drop in at one of the following meetings. *All Support Groups are held at the Diabetes Society office unless otherwise noted.

For more information, please contact Oralia (408) 287-3785 ext 142 or Oralia@diabetessociety.org

Parent/Teen Group

Parents who have children with diabetes are encouraged to attend this group. This group focuses on problems specific to dealing with diabetes and children from infants through their teen years.

Pump Perspectives

This is a support group for people currently using an insulin infusion pump for the treatment of diabetes. Its meetings will focus on the questions and problems that arise while using a pump. This group has no set agenda and is open for the discussion and sharing of experiences.

Type 1 Women’s Group

This is a support group for women ages 25+ who have Type 1 diabetes. These meetings focus on the concerns of young women such as pregnancy, marriage, emotional peaks and valleys, etc. The group is run as an open forum, allowing it to be dynamic and interactive. Participants are encouraged to share from their own experiences.

Teen Social

This group is for teens and young adults with diabetes (ages 13 and up, and friends, family members or your boyfriend/girlfriend are welcomed) to keep in touch with friends and talk to others about shared experiences. This is less of a formal “support group,” and more of a casual environment where we gather to have fun, meet others with diabetes and talk and learn from each other.

Contact Kat Winant Carpenter at the Diabetes Society at 1-800-989-1165 ext 123, or Kat@diabetessociety.org for more information and details on our next scheduled meeting.

Spanish

The Spanish support groups are offered at Community Health Partnership. For more information on dates and times please call Pamela Gudino at (408) 289-9260 x 204 or Oralia Espinoza at (408) 287-3785 x 142 or email Oralia@diabetessociety.org.

Diabetes Update and Adult Support Group

This support group is designed for people with diabetes to help keep them up-to-date in the care of their diabetes. A different topic is covered each month. This group also focuses on discussing concerns and problems the group attendees are experiencing, such as fear, denial, complications, etc. People who attend this group are also encouraged to bring their partners. They will be able to meet other people with diabetes and share concerns they may have.
